Autumn Freesurf -Freshwater Beach- April 9 2006

Just happened to fall on 'big sunday, biggest waves in 30 years' day for Sydney beaches. Nevertheless, a small turnout of surf sistas arrived at Freshwater beach to assess the water madness. All agreed the surf was way too dangerous to unstrap boards from roofracks.

5 metre waves closing out in angry chunder mood. Scary.

That decision appeared to be a Good Idea because the surf lifesavers came on shift and closed the beach anyway.

Freshie in action. Plenty of admirers. We also did a rubbish collection on the shoreline. Weirdest item picked up: a yellow earplug.

No waves, but a busy morning regardless. We found a cat stuck in a drain, and here is Charlie luring it out with a donation of bacon, thanks to the fabulous Freshie Surf Bar Cafe. Puss couldn't/wouldn't slip through the drain opening, so we ended up calling the fire brigade. A few minutes before they arrived Puss disappeared. We hope to a wider exit. Note the red surf sistas flag came in handy to deter people parking over cat rescue ground zero.

Maria & the Red Flag. Comrad surfers. Waves itching for a bullfight!
