Put your feet in the air if you see something this big with a fin coming at you!

As we were gathering on the sand, a pod of about 8 bottle-nosed dolphins came in at roughly 20 metres from shore to say hello to some FREAKED out surfers. Thanks to our wildlife expert Julie for confirming just what type of sea friends they were.
They moseyed over to a few lone surfers, then motored up and down the beach to catch some waves. What huge creatures they were, and they glided so fast. We could see their silhouettes darting through breaking green waves-an amazing, amazing sight!
I now want a tail.
If you got out of bed on that doonafriendly, rainy- windy- cold morning, you too could have squealed in delight with us as we ran up and down the beach alongside them. It warmed us up heaps as well.

Winter. It means woollies, homemade soup, and icy winds. Surfing isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Nevertheless, we met at South Maroubra with it's Katoomba-like 11C on the ice, I mean, sand-plus some wind chill factor. People came in dribs and drabs…because, yeah, it was hard to get out of bed and down to the beach when it’s that cold first thing on a Sunday morning. The swell was lovely early on, smooth and glassy, then the wind whipped up arctic and we were lucky to leave without frostbite.

Sistas came from as far as Wollongong, and some new faces including little ‘Hunter’, our instantly proclaimed mascot. Breakfast was at the ever-excellent Zebra Café. We heard that Kate from Coogee was looking for us on the beach early on. Sorry we missed you! Please join us for the Spring Freesurf, Sunday 29th October –back at South Maroubra Beach.
